How to Check What Apps Know About You on Android

Many apps request more access than they need. Android gives you tools to see and control it.

Open the permission manager

Go to Settings, then Privacy, then Permission manager. You will see categories such as location, camera, microphone, contacts and files.

Review each category

  • Set location to “only while using the app” or off.
  • Remove microphone and camera access from apps that do not need it.
  • Check which apps can see nearby devices and files.

Use the privacy dashboard

The privacy dashboard shows which apps accessed sensitive permissions in recent hours. Anything unexpected deserves a closer look.

Clean up

Uninstall apps you no longer use and turn off unused permissions automatically through the “remove permissions if app is unused” option.

Key takeaway: Review permissions every few months and remove access that an app does not need.
